The School of Applied Sciences at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP, Brazil) is looking for a two-year Postdoctoral researcher starting in February 2025 to take part in an international social science consortium involving Columbia University (US) and Mines Paris (France).
What we offer:
• A monthly, tax-free income of R$ 12.000,00 (about US$ 2,000.00 depending on the Brazilian Real/US Dollar exchange) funded by FAPESP (equivalent to salaries of Associate Professorship position in Brazil), in addition to generous relocation assistance and contingency funds (10% of the annual value of the fellowship) for use in activities directly related to the research.
Objective and functions:
Lead qualitative and bibliometric research on the way participatory science formats can either mitigate or deepen the crisis of trust in public health and scientific experts in the cases of Long Covid and Zika.
Prepare and conduct interviews/ethnographic research for long periods of time in different regions of Brazil.
Data analysis, dissemination and paper submission.
Perform project administrative tasks, report writing and liaise with international partners.

Activities will be held 100% in person at UNICAMP´s Public Policy, Geography of Innovation and Governance research group (GOING).

Skills/Qualifications
• A doctoral degree in Science, Technology & Society/Science and Technology Policy Studies; Sociology/Anthropology; Social Medicine/Public Health or related areas in Social Sciences, obtained less than 7 years ago.
• Experience with bibliometric and network analysis research and tools (e.g., VOSviewer, Gephi).
• Experience with qualitative research and tools (e.g., ATLAS.ti, NVivo).
• Experience with ethnographic data collection (interviews and observations, to be conducted in Brazil requiring fluency in Portuguese).
Specific Requirements
• High motivation and interest in interdisciplinary research.
• Availability to work in Campinas (São Paulo State) and travel for fieldwork.
• The ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally.
Collaboration and teamwork are central to the project.
