Division and Unit Overview ACS International (ACSI) is currently seeking an ACS Publications Sales Consultant, Brazil. ACSI is the global operating entity of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the world's largest scientific membership association, with a mission to "advance the broader chemistry enterprise and its practitioners for the benefit of Earth and its people".
The position will reside within ACS Publications. The Publications Division has all the characteristics of a medium-large scientific and technical publishing organization. It is one of two ACS Divisions charged with serving the dual function of generating a reliable annual surplus to support the Society's programmatic activities, while also fulfilling a core goal of the Society in advancing knowledge in the field of chemistry and the chemical enterprise.
The Publications Division publishes over 80+ high-quality scholarly journals focused on chemistry and chemistry-related topics. It provides its members and the worldwide scientific community with a comprehensive collection of high-quality information products and services for the practice and advancement of the chemical sciences.
The ACS Publications' Account Consultant, Brazil (AC-BR) is responsible for supporting businesses growth in Latin America and the Caribbean (mainly Brazil) by promoting ACS Publications resources and ensuring optimal customer experience through training, relationship-building, and sales support. The AC-BR is expected to help customers to advance in their goals by helping them to understand the value of ACS products and finding the answer to their research and R&D needs.
The AC-BR is tasked with promoting ACS Publications products, brand, and services, including publishing and author services, to the diverse list of stakeholders in Brazil/LATAM that have strong interest in scholarly research in the chemistry-related sciences.This includes various funders of scientific research such as CAPES and similar institutions in the government and corporate sectors. In order to support these activities, the AC-BR will drive growth through comprehensive engagement and outreach activities within the scientific community by planning and executing the Brazilian ACS Pubs annual events and training agenda on relevant scientific topics. The AC-BR will also regularly plan and execute ACS presence and attendance at relevant meetings, symposia, and events aiming to expand professional network and engagement. In time, the AC-BR will proactively seek representation on scientific panels, conferences and presentation/speaking engagements that strengthen the visibility and user experience of all ACS Publications products. The AC-BR will support scientists and authors in advancing science in Latin America, while exploring new business opportunities in chemistry-related areas via engagement with STEM thought-leaders throughout Brazil.
This position will require substantial travel within Brazil, as well as periodic travel to ACS offices in the US. Situationally, the AC-BR may be asked to travel to other sites in Latin America to support ACS Publications priorities.
This position should be located in Brazil. This position will report the ACS Publications Latin America Manager.
Primary Responsibilities Ensure that academic and corporate customers receive value from ACS Publications solutions. Help customers to identify risks and solve problems to ensure optimal customer experience and ACS product usage. Educate customers on ACS Publications products and resources. Develop, build, expand, and solidify relationship with customers and potential customers. Support sales calls, preparing and making technical presentations. Anticipate and drive growth of additional services by conducting thorough needs assessments and match these needs to the appropriate solutions. Consistently use Salesforce (CRM) to document all communications with customers and to create new leads. Build and nurture relationships in the Brazilian scientific community in order to elevate and secure ACS Pubs' presence in the region. Plan and execute robust platform and product training through both scheduled on-campus training sessions and coordinated virtual training modules. Follow-up on developed leads and sales opportunities emanating from above activities, including integration with SFDC, Leads-to-Success program, and Revenue Marketing activities. Assist with engagement activities for the Corporate, Government and Academia authoring, reviewing, and publishing community to support business development opportunities, including but not limited to growth in ACS Publications revenue, new business and expanding existing business. Plan and support marketing activities directed to the scientific community, such as workshops, seminars as well as other events that help to disseminate ACS brand and ACS Publications' products. Assist the development of new market plan, strategy, and opportunities for ACS Publication's products. Assist in developing and documenting the yearly Plan for ACS Publications in the LATAM market. Assist sales and administrative activities developed by ACS Publications in the LATAM region. Support customers, events, sales, and administrative activities in LATAM region. Attend meetings as requested and respond to emails and phone calls to ensure all information is documented and updated within SalesForce.com or elsewhere as requested. Monitor calls and performance to identify gaps in training. Work with related team to assist in the quality improvement process of the account. Develop skillset to support other ACS divisions operating in LATAM and provide support as requested. Academic Customer-Related and Outreach Activities Develop and promote, in coordination with CAPES and CAPES-covered institutions, an awareness and benefits marketing program. Adapt and add to program based on developments in researcher needs assessment and in sales strategy. Complete a CAPES-wide assessment of institutions and their alignment with ACS Publications content, solutions and OA agreement. Design institution-specific marketing programs in collaboration with Americas Revenue Marketing staff targeting high potential institutions. Track impact and adjust/scale programs to ensure maximum impact. Identify opportunities to develop partnership with Brazilian academic institutions to promote ACS brands and products. Plan and execute customer and author engagement initiatives (i.e., seminars, webinars, conferences) with trainings in scholarly publishing and communication, covering topics such as: scientific literature search, scientific paper preparation, peer review, how to choose an ACS journal to publish your article, open access publication, artificial intelligence in scientific communication, and others. Plan and execute customer and author engagement activities with CAPES and it is institutions, promoting training sessions about ACS products and services, scientific topics, scholarly publishing and open access. Promote activities for the Brazilian scientific community to increase awareness about ACS-CAPES Read and Publish agreement, promoting events on Open Access initiatives, training sessions on scientific writing and open access publishing with ACS, OA workflow, etc. Give additional support to another Read and Publish agreements needs in Latin America besides Brazil. Develop contents to support to engage authors withing the LATAM region aiming to impact manuscript submission, usage, and citation, such as ACS LATAM newsletters and social media posts, etc. Monitor usage and article submission statistics from CAPES-covered institutions to identify gaps. Promote scientific outreach and engagement programs, such as Women in Chemistry Awards, to increase ACS brand awareness in LATAM and promote science advancement, sustainability, and DEIR in accordance to ACS' mission and values. Operate under the direction of ACS' Publications Manager in LATAM to maximize stakeholder engagement and satisfaction, including support for conferences, ACS on Campus events, and other engagement activities. Partner with other ACS divisions and programs, such as CAS, ACS on Campus, ACS GCI, Professional Chapters, Student Chapters, Global Engagement, and others to develop and implement activities and programs for the scientific community in LATAM. Corporate, Government, and Non-Profit Customer-related Activities Plan and execute training sessions with corporate, government, and non-profit organization users on ACS products and services according to specific R&D needs. Help corporate customer to get the best value from ACS products and support them on their journey to find the right answer to R&D question and challenges. Plan and execute customer and author engagement initiatives (i.e., seminars, webinars, conferences) regarding scientific topics and innovation challenges for industry and government to engage users and increase ACS brand awareness. Develop training materials (or translate existing materials) for use to support customers using digital products including online, remote via webinar and onsite training experiences. Develop processes to anticipate future Customer e-product support and training needs and plan accordingly. Demonstrate ability to translate customer needs into business and product requirements. Identify and put forward suggestions to improve e-product use and customer training experience. Required Education: Undergraduate and Master's Degrees in a STEM field are required: PhD preferred. Required Experience: 2+ years of relevant professional experience in the region. Networked in regional library, scientific community, government, and publishing. A strong record of publishing, training and outreach experience. Experience in public speaking.
