Job description KRONOS ALIMENTOS , founded in 2019, is a subsidiary of Mitsui & Co. Ltd., a global trading and investment company headquartered in Japan, with a presence in more than 60 countries and a diverse business portfolio covering a wide range of industries.Today, the company imports and distributes human and animal food products - representing the Marcuhan, Bem Gusto, and Churu brands.Kronos is at the peak of its expansion and soon will add a new Japanese brand to its portfolio, which is a benchmark in its category.The company is currently looking for a Lawyer to work with the company's legal, compliance, and regulatory affairs.Main responsibilities This in-house legal professional ensures the compliance, stability, and security of the company's operations from legal aspects, focusing on regulatory review as well as drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts with suppliers, distributors, and other partners, including international agreements in English.
The person ensures regulatory compliance in food safety, labeling, and requirements from agencies such as the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply ("MAPA") and the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency ("ANVISA"), while managing administrative and judicial disputes if needed.
The person ensures compliance of the company with the laws and regulations in the area of consumer protection including the Consumer Defense Code and may handle issues related to product liability including advertisement, labeling, and consumer claims.
The person also works in other areas of compliance such as data protection, developing and reviewing documents and policies to meet the latest legal standards.To the extent needed, this professional also manages union relations, employment contracts, workplace safety, corporate governance matters, including corporate documentation, trademark protection, and industrial property, as well as waste management and sustainability practices.Mandatory knowledge in:Contracts & Negotiation: expertise in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts (mainly with suppliers, distributors, retailers, and agents) as well as international trade agreements in both Portuguese and English.Preferable knowledge in:Regulatory Compliance: Skills with food safety regulations, labeling laws, and compliance with MAPA and ANVISA requirements and handling administrative and judicial disputes.Consumer Protection Law: expertise in consumer protection laws especially, the Consumer Defense Code – "CDC" and handling administrative and judicial disputes.Compliance & Data Protection Governance: good knowledge about compliance and data protection governance, including drafting and reviewing necessary policies and documents.Labor Relations: good knowledge in labor law, including managing relations with unions, compliance with labor regulations, employee contracts, workplace safety, and handling administrative and judicial disputes.Corporate Governance: knowledge of corporate governance, especially, drafting and reviewing corporate documents.Trademark & Brand Protection: understanding of trademarks and industrial property rights and processes as well as licensing and technology agreements.Environmental Law: understanding about environmental regulations governing waste management, and sustainability practices.Requirements and skills Contract handling and negotiation skills including drafting and reviewing contracts both in English and Portuguese.Team working skills including the ability to co-work and create good relationships with various departments in the company (HR, accounting, operations, etc.)
