- Role Purpose:
- Supports the Director Major Projects with project control and construction management for a specific part of the major project.
- Maintains project schedule, scope and budget by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities and resolving problems.
- Manage the construction contractors on site, ensure quality of construction and resolve construction related issued in a timely manner.
- Responsibilities:
- 1) Construction Management
- 1a) Engineering Interface- Deliver required outcomes by managing day-to-day relationships with engineering service providers-
- Ensure development of complete scope of work and accurate cost estimate-
- Facilitate accurate and complete input data/ basic data for engineering designs-
- Ensure timely analysis and resolution of identified design discrepancies to protect quality and schedule-
- Participate in design and risk reviews to ensure that safety, constructability, operability and maintainability are integrated into technical designs- 1b) Procurement Interface- Work with project dedicated procurement manager to obtain market input on required scope, obtain up to date prices, and incorporate latest innovation/ technology offerings to ensure accurate and optimised cost estimate-
- Participate in quality inspections and quality control on key equipment items- 1c) Construction Interface- Provide technical support and interpretation of design documents to Deliver required outcomes by managing day-to-day relationships with contractors/ service providers-
- contractors during construction by liaising with Engineering and Operations-
- Develop and work within an established contract management plan, project execution plan and project schedule-
- Analyse and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to construction issues-
- Liaise with Operations on practical site specific issues such as tie-in-
- points, shutdown windows for construction activities, access to site services, laydown areas-
- Manage flow of equipment and material from warehouse/ laydown areas to workfronts-
- Maintain good housekeeping to ensure safe working environment by enforcing procedures and rules- 2) Project Control:
- Develop and maintain integrated project schedule to direct engineering and construction activities-
- Develop and maintain project budget, sign off on invoices submitted and keep track of commitment and actual expenses-
- Correlate project cost against actual progress on site-
- Manage deviations to project scope, cost, timeline or specification to and escalate high risk issues to the Director Projects-
- Monitor engineering and construction activities by regular surveillance, inspection and formal planned audits to ensure quality of designs and installed works-
- Track project trends, changes, variations and site instructions-
- Keep complete body of evidence of changes to support Legal and Procurement with claims and counterclaims-
- Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends, recommending actions-
- Support the Director Projects with information for Steerco meetings-
- Record lessons learnt- About you:
- Bachelor Degree, preferably in Engineering or other relevant field-
- 10 years + of experience in engineering and project management in the heavy industry is preferred-
- Proven track record in project controls and construction management-
- Proficient in time schedule and cost software-
- PMP certification is a plus-
- English - proficient verbal & writing-
