Call for Applications for Postdoctoral Fellowship - Extreme Events and Urban ImpactsThematic Project - Evictions Observatory: Interdisciplinary Dimensions of Risk in Times of Climate Change and Housing Crisis Prof.
Dr. Tercio Ambrizzi (IEE-USP) is offering a Postdoctoral Fellowship to conduct research under his supervision, titled "Extreme Events and Their Impacts on São Paulo in the Face of the Current Climate Crisis".
This fellowship is funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and is part of the project "Evictions Observatory: Interdisciplinary Dimensions of Risk in Times of Climate Change and Housing Crisis", coordinated by Prof. Dr. Raquel Rolnik.
The project was approved under the FAPESP Thematic Project Grant 2023/12851-7 and will be hosted at LabCidade, in the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of São Paulo.
1.
About the Project and the Position The Thematic Project aims to inaugurate a new phase of the Evictions Observatory, which has identified, mapped, and analyzed threats, evictions, and forced displacements of individuals and groups in the São Paulo Metropolitan Region for over a decade.
This new phase addresses theoretical and methodological challenges to identify, quantify, and characterize territories and groups at risk of eviction due to being categorized as "at risk."
It also seeks to conceptually develop "risk" as a device for socio-territorial intervention, within the context of overlapping environmental and housing crises.
The research to be conducted by the Postdoctoral Fellow, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Tercio Ambrizzi, aims to elaborate on the concept of environmental risk through an interdisciplinary approach, integrating climate dimensions with the socio-territorial and institutional dynamics of other areas within the Thematic Project.
1.1 General Objectives: Evaluate the components of environmental risk using qualitative territorial data analyzed by a multidisciplinary team, proposing adaptations to the model through the inclusion and development of variables.Analyze the environmental dynamics that define municipal vulnerability to disasters associated with climate change and extreme events, proposing adaptation strategies to promote urban resilience and sustainable development.Develop and evaluate strategies (technologies and adaptation plans) to support sustainable development and resilience in the São Paulo Metropolitan Region.1.2 Specific Objectives: Analyze current climate risk in São Paulo, where risk is defined as Threat x Exposure x Vulnerability of a region or city.Calculate future climate risk projections considering extreme atmospheric warming scenarios, using CMIP6 data.Facilitate collaboration among scientists from diverse fields to develop tools that provide city managers and residents with clear and objective information about local climate risks and support the establishment of strategies in collaboration with specialized organizations.2.
