Job Description: Job Summary: The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing direct care to oncology patients for the Los Angeles Cancer Network. This role provides patients with safe, quality care throughout their treatment and disease process as effectively as possible at all stages of diagnosis to end of life. Helps patients manage and live with diagnosis, retaining autonomy and independence by using the most appropriate disease/symptom/psychosocial management techniques.
Responsibilities: Mixes chemotherapy and administers chemotherapy, hydration, and other medications under the direct supervision of a physician.Performs assessments on patients.Participates in activities to plan, measure, assess, and improve the quality of patient care.Demonstrates knowledge of ambulatory infusion pump use and maintenance.Draws blood via port catheter or PICC line.Educates patients and their families about chemotherapy side effects.Encourages new chemo patients and families to utilize See Your Chart Portal.Schedules chemotherapy, hydration, injections, and bone marrows in the EMR.Follows company process for billing verification before administering any medications.Monitors Coumadin levels and provides patient education.Completes patient documentation in a timely manner.Maintains a clean work environment.Verifies patient allergies.Maintains skills, knowledge, and currency in administration of chemotherapy.Attends meetings for continuing education to maintain currency of nursing license.Assists the Charge Nurse with daily operations.Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills.Establishes and maintains effective working relationships.Assesses nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients through technology methods.Demonstrates exceptional assessment, critical thinking, and customer service skills.Maintains emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses.Seeks out resources independently and works collaboratively.Collaborates, sets priorities, and organizes work to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations.Multitasks efficiently.Communicates clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others.Additional Requirements: Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification through ONS or must obtain within 12 months of hire.Current CPR/BCLS certification.Access port-a-caths and PICC lines.Basic typing, keyboard, and computer skills.Great customer service skills.Medical terminology - Oncology/Hematology specific.Previous Oncology/Hematology experience preferred.
