The Chief Instrumentation is responsible for the quality of recording department work and recording deliverables according to survey requirements and survey contractual specifications. In charge of daily management of the worksite, with appropriate delegation to supporting department Chiefs. Is responsible for the supervision of Instrumentation Department Personnel when engaged in Seismic Operations within the Node Deployment System, the Node Storage & Handling System and back deck operations.
**Main Responsibilities**:
- Manages and validates configuration of equipment, plans the mobilization and demobilization for the department.
- Ensures maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
- Advises/assists the Party Manager - NHV or QC in survey planning, survey contract management, crisis management.
- Supervises back-deck operations, including but not exclusively all NSS Containers and external systems; deployment and recovery operations; digest system; node maintenance; mechanical Maintenance (Under direction of the Chief Mech)
- Champions new or redesigned seismic equipment that may be introduced to the crews.
- Proposes equipment and process improvement.
- Is fully aware of hazards and risks within his area of responsibility and other tasks under his control.
- Participates in the vessel performance review.
- Reviews and amends the quality control plan / start-up sheet.
- Manages and optimizes his departmental performance.
- Proposes Capex investments to the Instrumentation Support Manager for new equipment investment.
- In collaboration with the Party Manager - NHV, assesses departmental personnel based on HR and technical requirements.
- Ensures that the Instrumentation team is properly trained managed and coached for its assigned tasks.
- Ensures that the Instrumentation team works safely, is adequately supervised and following procedures validated by the EHSQ Department.
- Defines the individual development plans of his team members according to the detected needs.
- Responsible for the management of departmental stock and assets.
- Ensures the accuracy of the department logs.
- Keeps updated work lists.
- Manages operates and maintains digest system; Node Handling Automation systems with ancillary equipment; and other electrical systems.
- Carry out proper equipment maintenance based on supplier manuals, office recommendations and best practices.
- Updates and implementation of the preventive maintenance plan.
- Recording of maintenance tasks into the maintenance logging system.
- Monitoring of maintenance indicators and set-up of corrective actions.
- Requests for external assistance, when necessary, based on technical analysis and specification of needs, through the fault reporting system or the shipyard work list.
- Stock management, anticipation of needs, requisitions through the purchasing system, tracking and reception of shipments.
- Validates that seismic acquisition is compliant with Company-defined technical standards, procedures, and contractual requirements.
- Defines and validates the working instructions for the department.
- Implements Company technical and EHSQ policies by writing and implementing Working Instructions and procedures.
- Coordination with Party Manager - NHV and other Chiefs as part of the Site Management Team.
- Provides information to the client about seismic acquisition issues upon request via the Party Manager.
- First interface with Technical Support department ashore.
- Requests external resources (Technical Support, local vendors) when necessary, via the Party Manager.
- Ensures through proper assessments that recommendations for promotions within the Instrumentation department are based on competency.
- Performs periodic evaluations of their department personnel, providing feedback to PM.
**Requirements**:
- Degree in Electronics, mechatronics/automation, computer science or similar / Combination of education and relevant experience in Geophysics or Electronics along with:
- A thorough understanding of the MANTA Nodes and their specifications
- Shift Leader Instrumentation with 3+ years' experience on a Manta Crew
- Thorough knowledge of operating Digest, including creating reports, testing nodes, preparing nodes for deployment and recovery.
- Good understanding of operating the NSS system, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting the system.
- Auxiliary Equipment: Radios UHF, wattmeter, radio Modem, Hydrophone or geophone tester (Sercel, I/O sensor), Oscilloscopes.
- Knowledge in computers, workstations, network, radios and electricity is essential
- To be competent in the use of corporate software.
