The leader will also have responsibility to oversee all aspects of the local Lumentum site in Campinas, Brazil. This role involves developing and growing a strong technical R&D team capable of all aspects of product development, including optical, mechanical, electrical, and software design and test and working closely with our manufacturing sites and Contract Manufacturers to bring new products into volume manufacturing. The Subsystems Brazil leader will collaborate closely with R&D teams around the world to share design strategies, keep abreast of technology trends, and industry standards, and deliver best in class products to our customers.The Subsystems Brazil Leader will also collaborate closely with the CNP team, including the product line management team, CTO team, and Operations, to deliver products according to the product roadmap.The successful candidate will foster a culture of ownership, accountability, innovation, and zero-defect mindset within the R&D team and within the Lumentum Brazil site.Primary ResponsibilitiesProduct Definition | Work with Product Management and customers to define product requirements to ensure best in class products.Design Oversight and Approval | Lead the product development process (PDP) for select optical products, ensuring compliance with technical, regulatory and company standards.Technical Leadership | Provide technical direction and support to R&D team, ensuring innovative and effective design solutions.Innovation and Improvement | Drive continuous improvement and Kaizen methodologies, including Speed Design Reviews (SDR), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and 3P.Process Engineering | Partner with Product and Process Engineering and Operations to ensure products are designed for manufacturability at scale.Regulatory Compliance | Ensure all product designs comply with relevant industry and governmental standards and certifications.Local Leadership | Attract, develop, and retain top talent for the Brazil R&D positions, while motivating staff to continually improve their performance.Fiscal Management | Manage the CNP Brazil R&D operating budget.Partner with Operations | Team with operations team to ensure new optical components/modules/subsystems are released into production in our internal factories or at our contract manufacturers meeting the quality, yield, cost, and cycle time objectives for the business.Position RequirementsAdvanced degree in Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical/Optical or equivalent required.Minimum of 15 years of experience in progressive research and product development leadership roles within global companies that develop, manufacture, and sell optical networking products.Experience in organizational transformation, setting and scaling the research and development function, with the proven ability to attract, inspire, motivate, and retain top tier talent.Experience with distributed teams and business and manufacturing partners.Fluent English, both written and spoken.Leadership CompetenciesStrategic Thinking | Ability to analyze complex situations, anticipate future trends, and develop innovative plans to achieve long-term goals effectively.Inspiring Leadership and Global Experience | Ability to leverage global and cross-cultural insights and communication to motivate diverse teams towards shared goals.Customer Intimacy | capability to deeply understand individual customer (internal or external) needs, preferences, and behaviors, fostering strong relationships and tailored solutions.Customer focus | Promote customer focus culture and lead the design win opportunities with speedy execution.Continuous Improvement | Drive continuous improvement throughout the R&D organization.Advanced Communication | ability to convey complex ideas clearly, adapt messages to diverse audiences, and facilitate meaningful dialogue among internal / external stakeholders.We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company.We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.We will ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment.Please contact us to request accommodation.About UsIt's an exciting time to join Lumentum!
