Detalhes da Vaga

The Global Fund for a New Economy seeks a co-President to jointly lead an ambitious new organization working to catalyze a more impactful global movement for a New Economy; one that is more inclusive, more sustainable, and pro-democracy.This is a unique opportunity to help scope, build and develop lasting and powerful movement infrastructure across the domains of philanthropy, policy, campaigns and communication. Leadership will rest on a co-leadership model comprising a first co-President who will oversee resource mobilization for the Fund and field infrastructure building and this person, who will oversee the organization's overarching economic/policy strategy, the development of a global network of New Economy leaders, and the Fund's internal operations. We seek candidates who can bring an established profile and reputation within the field of New Economy, as well as significant leadership and expertise, strong organizational development and people skills, and provide the energy and drive necessary to inspire and bring life to this ambitious new organization.About the Global Fund for a New EconomyEstablished in 2024, the Global Fund for a New Economy's purpose is to galvanize and empower organizations, individuals, policy-makers, academics, and activists globally who are working to bring about a more just, sustainable economy. Its ambition is to realize a fundamental step-change in the pace, momentum, and impact of those working in this globally dispersed ecosystem. The organization aims to help build an infrastructure for impact - policies, narratives, and a new generation of policymakers and citizens - which can challenge the failed doctrines of orthodox neoliberal economic thought that have widened socio-economic disparities, undermined democracies, and exacerbated the climate crisis.About the roleThis will be one of two co-Presidents who will jointly lead the new Fund. Working in a relationship of close collaboration and partnership with co-President Brian Kettenring, this role will oversee the operations team - which will encompass human resources, finance, development and other 'internal' functions – and the policy functions, including management of the VP Policy & Chief Economist. In 2024, the staff will grow to between seven and ten staff. As we build the staff base, we will work to ensure that it represents the geographic and other forms of diversity of the network we aim to serve.ResponsibilitiesThere are five major lines of work at the organization and leadership and management responsibilities are to be divided between the two co-Presidents: 1. Raising funds at scale for the global New Economy field; 2. Managing work to build the organizational infrastructure and campaigning capacity of the field; 3. Overseeing and helping drive the economic policy agenda of the Fund and the field 4. Building the global network of New Economy leaders; and 5. Overseeing the internal management of the organization. The current thinking is that the first co-President, Brian Kettenring, will manage the first two responsibilities. This co-President will manage the final two responsibilities. Both co-Presidents will be responsible for a range of core functions, including fundraising for the organization and strategic planning. This co-President will oversee the policy work of the organization. This includes managing the Chief Economist, who in turn manages a team of policy experts and strategists, with a goal of driving forward the field's ambition and delivery of economic policy making in key domainsThe co-President is responsible for managing a global network of New Economy leaders. There are national networks in certain countries, but nowhere is there a truly global, cross-sector network. This co-president will oversee the building and maintenance of this formation. The co-President is responsible for managing the Vice President of Operations, People and Finance, who in turn is responsible for all the various internal functions - finance, human relations, technology, database and digital, and more – and for operationalizing the Fund's strategy. The co-President is responsible for working with the other senior leaders of the organization and the development team to raise a growing operational budget of $7-10M (annually) at first, growing from there.Though the other co-President will manage the resourcing function of the organization, this co-president will also be responsible for helping to cultivate major donors, foundations, and other sources of investment in the global sector. In addition to these responsibilities, it is expected that the co-Presidents will undertake external networking, partnership-building, representational, and media work.Person SpecificationsThe co-President will be a well-established leader or expert on new economics and an experienced organizational leader. They will bring:More than 15 years' experience working in the New Economy field, preferably with a strong public policy background and deep expertise in one or more key areas of interest, for example: economic development strategy, the political economy of climate, feminist economics, industrial strategy, democratic theory.Established leadership and authority on questions of New Economy, preferably with a focus on economic development of Global South nations in a global context.Ideally, this person will have significant experience of working in or with the Global South. Experience of working in one or more of our primary countries of interest (Kenya, South Africa, Brazil, Colombia, or India) would be highly desirable.Significant experience building and running organizations, be they think tanks, advocacy organizations, grassroots campaigns, policy projects, and the like – ideally, with knowledge of organizational start-ups and scale-ups.Experience leading and managing international, ideally globally dispersed, teamsExcellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.Experience raising multi-million budgets from the likes of philanthropy, major donors, and/or public funding.Ability to build strong relationships with fellow team members and to work collaboratively.A sense of humour and self-awareness.Demonstrable work holding and upholding progressive organizational culture that can recognise and effectively explore and resolve conflict and tension.Master's degree or higher in a related substantive or management field.Ability to communicate in English and at least one other language, such as French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Arabic, or Hindi.Compensation and terms & conditionsLocation: Remote, but travel is expected to meet colleagues from the Fund, partners and allied organizations.Working hours: Full-time. Some flexibility will be necessary to ensure effective working with a global team.Compensation for this role will be competitive relative to the market in which candidates are based.
