Position Summary:
The Sr Medical Science Liaison (Sr MSL) is a member of a field-based team of scientists who function as an extension of the Medical Affairs organization. MSLs are responsible for developing and enhancing professional relationships with medical thought leaders involved in various phases of product development as well as key medical organizations including treatment centers of excellence and established societies and associations. MSLs provide medical information through scientific exchange in a fair-balanced manner and provide clinical/scientific support to the company.
The Sr MSL will help to integrate the efforts of the Medical Affairs Department with R&D, Clinical Affairs and Scientific Affairs and with other internal teams to ensure effective selection and execution of investigator-initiated clinical trials. The incumbent will also provide clinical and educational support to managed care organizations, as well as identify influential senior clinicians on the national and regional level.
This is a field-based position and requires professionals with established personal and scientific credibility to interact with thought leaders and centers of excellence. This Sr MSL position will support the company's products in development and brands as their primary responsibility. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of rare diseases development.
Work Model:
Field: Officially documented as working as a member of the Ultragenyx field team, generally interacting with third parties on behalf of Ultragenyx.
Responsibilities:
Identify Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), and establish and maintain scientific relationships with KOLs; connecting to KOLs in academic and community centers.
Using the science behind our products support NPP activities.
Act as primary liaison to investigators interested in developing and performing investigator-initiated research.
Develop and execute territory plans in alignment with country-level plans.
Provide clinical presentations and medical information in response to unsolicited questions (as appropriate) in academic, community, and healthcare provider settings.
Communicate complex scientific information to a variety of audiences, including KOLs, healthcare professionals, and internal stakeholders.
Provide medical information through scientific exchange and disseminate scientific publications.
Facilitate the collection and dissemination of scientific data, including real-world evidence and clinical trial results.
Provide clinical disease state presentations to key stakeholders including Payers.
Collaborate with the Clinical Operations organization to enhance patient enrollment in company-sponsored clinical trials by identifying appropriate clinical trial sites and interacting with investigators in ongoing studies.
Provide Scientific and Medical information updates.
Provide scientific support at medical congresses.
Provide timely medical insights/information on emerging clinical/scientific teams and opportunities to internal stakeholders.
Provide scientific support for appropriate educational initiatives.
Ensure all activities are compliant with company policies and SOPs.
Serve as mentor and train new team members.
Seek out opportunities to support the MSL value proposition, achieve results and set an example for others to follow by consistently demonstrating Ultragenyx cultural attributes and core competencies.
Be compliant with Ultragenyx Code of Conduct, policies and procedures.
Requirements:
Medical degree, with at least 4 years of previous MSL and relevant disease state clinical experience required.
Rare disease experience preferred, particularly in metabolic genetic diseases.
Excellent teamwork and communication skills required.
Fluent Spanish and English.
Demonstrated experience effectively presenting clinical/scientific information required.
Expert understanding of the local health care delivery system and its impact on patient care and regional medical care.

Approximately 50-60% travel is required; overnight travel is required as needed.
