Mactores is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Database Migration Engineer (Administrator) to lead and execute the migration project from MS SQL Server to PostgreSQL. The ideal candidate will lead hands-on execution of migrating database tables, schema, and data from MS SQL Server to PostgreSQL. The candidate will also be responsible for performing DBA tasks on PostgreSQL database post-migration.
What will you do?
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand project requirements and formulate a comprehensive migration plan, ensuring a smooth transition from MSSQL to Postgres.
Conduct a detailed analysis of the existing MSSQL database, identifying areas for optimization and performance enhancement before and after migration.
Lead the execution of the migration process, overseeing the transfer of data from MSSQL to Postgres, and ensuring data integrity and minimal downtime.
Implement monitoring solutions to track the performance of the Postgres database, optimizing and fine-tuning as necessary for optimal system efficiency.
Ensure the security of the migrated database by implementing robust access controls, encryption, and other security measures aligned with best practices.
Develop and implement comprehensive backup and recovery plans to safeguard data during and post-migration, ensuring minimal data loss in case of unforeseen events.
Collaborate closely with application developers and other cross-functional teams to address any application-specific considerations and optimize database interactions.
Create detailed technical documentation outlining the migration process, configurations, security measures, and recovery procedures. Provide knowledge transfer sessions to internal teams.
Proactively identify and troubleshoot issues during the migration process, providing timely and effective solutions to ensure project success.
Manage the end-to-end migration process from MS SQL Server to PostgreSQL, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
Execute the migration of database tables, schemas, and data, ensuring data integrity, consistency, and accuracy.
Assume responsibility for performing Database Administrator (DBA) tasks on the migrated PostgreSQL database, including performance tuning.
What are we looking for?
3+ years of hands-on experience in database administration, with a proven track record of leading and executing database migration projects.
Extensive expertise in MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL database management, including migration tools, techniques, and best practices.
Strong proficiency in SQL, database design, performance tuning, and optimization.
Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail and a results-driven mindset.
Exceptional communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

The Path to Joining the Mactores Team
At Mactores, our recruitment process is structured around three distinct stages:
Pre-Employment Assessment: You will be invited to participate in a series of pre-employment evaluations to assess your technical proficiency and suitability for the role.
Managerial Interview: The hiring manager will engage with you in multiple discussions, lasting anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, to assess your technical skills, hands-on experience, leadership potential, and communication abilities.
