SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Provost, through the Dean of the College of Arts & SciencesSUPERVISION EXERCISED: Student Workers & Graduate Assistants (as appropriate)POSITION SUMMARY : The Director of General Education & Writing@Moravian is an administrative position reporting directly to the Associate Provost and Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences.
The Director provides administrative and operational support to the general education (Moravian Integrated Learning Experience, or MILE) program while overseeing Writing@Moravian, including training of faculty teaching writing, administration of first-year writing, writing-enriched curriculum, and writing-intensive courses, and coordinating with the Center for Inclusive Excellence and faculty involved with general education or writing.
Writing@Moravian encompasses curricular-based writing experiences for all students, including, but not limited to, first-year writing, writing in the discipline, writing-enhanced curricula, and more.
A W@M committee exists to ensure consistency in the application of W@M learning outcomes and to participate in ongoing assessment of the learning outcomes and student achievement.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :The Director is expected to be engaged with scholarly and professional organizations so that they can keep Moravian abreast of current best practices.
The Director collaborates with Moravian's Integrated Learning Experience (MILE) Committee and faculty to:General Education:Promote the MILE general education program to all stakeholders, and work with chairs/program directors/deans/registrar to ensure that there are a sufficient number of courses in each general education category to serve the needs of the undergraduate students.Ensure that established Moravian's general education policies and procedures are properly implemented.Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of the MILE website and other general education informational materials.Coordinate with the MILE committee to develop new policies as needed for consideration by faculty governance and the provost that strengthen the General Education Program and are based on university-wide feedback, assessment data, and best practices.Coordinate implementation of general education assessment and curricular mapping, and ensure regular review of previously approved MILE courses to ensure ongoing alignment with general education learning outcomes.Develop, coordinate, and promote, through the Center for Teaching and Learning Innovation, the MILE Committee and other avenues, activities that encourage and support the use of High Impact Practices (HIPs) for faculty who are or may be teaching general education courses.Oversee recruitment, training, teaching, and assessment of the University Foundations requirement for general education, in partnership with the Center for Inclusive Excellence.Writing@Moravian:Co-chair the W@M committee.Work with others to recognize, develop, and coordinate curricular and co-curricular experiences that address the Moravian University's Writing@Moravian learning outcomes in ways that can be meaningfully implemented, credited, and tracked as part of a Moravian student's general education experience.Take part in developing and implementing new and ongoing initiatives related to student success and retention within the scope of W@M such as development and implementation of a digital portfolio.Teach at least one section of first year writing annually.In collaboration with the Center for Inclusive Excellence and the Center for Teaching and Learning Innovation, develop and deliver evidence-based training for new and ongoing instructors of first-year writing, writing in the discipline, and writing-enhanced curricula.Prepare regular updates and an annual report to the faculty and Provost about the status and activities of ******:Must hold a terminal degree in writing, rhetoric, composition or a related field.Have at least five full-time years of teaching experience in higher education, including at least two years of writing instruction at the college or university level.Have demonstrable experience with best practices in learning outcomes assessment.Strong oral and written communication skills.Experience with curriculum development.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience in developing, implementing, and managing a general education program.A demonstrated ability to plan, manage, and bring to completion projects related to teaching and learning.A minimum of 3 years of successful experience in university administration/coordination.Experience teaching general education courses.Success in collaborative work and in working with people of different backgrounds, experiences, and opinions.Record of scholarly engagement.TO APPLY: Qualified candidates should attach their cover letter and resume to their online application by clicking 'Apply Now'.
