Oyster is looking for an Employment Counsel to contribute to Oyster's growth to become the world leader in global distributed working.
This role will be a part of our growing Employment Law Team and will focus on Oyster's operations in the Central and South America ("LATAM").
**What you'll do**:
Reporting to the Employment Pod Lead (Standards), your responsibilities will include providing advice and counsel to internal stakeholders regarding employment law and employment-related issues in various countries by: researching issues and advising internal colleagues; creating easy-to-digest materials around employing workers in LATAM countries and other jurisdictions as needed; and supporting Oyster's Platform and Products teams in building a scalable, marketable, and successful technology platform.
Oyster needs someone with extensive knowledge and experience in LATAM Employment Law (experience with multiple jurisdictions and/or cross-border matters is preferred), including advising and supporting HR, and drafting policies and employment agreements.
Knowledge around intellectual property rights in the employment arena would be helpful as well.
Additional responsibilities may include risk and claim management, corporate diligence support, contract creation, negotiation and execution; and developing organizational policies and procedures.
In this role, you may touch all facets of law.
**What we're looking for**:
**Attributes that are important**:
- Juris Doctorate or other qualified lawyer with proper qualification or licensure.
- At least 4-5 years of experience practicing employment law, post qualification
- Fluent English language skills
- Experience advising on employment law compliance in one or more LATAM countries
- Experience drafting employment and non-compete agreements, and other employment related documents and policies;
- Experience handling employment terminations, transfers and employee complaints
- Ability to handle complex legal issues involving various LATAM countries' laws (including employment-related questions and global workforce issues)
- Capable of explaining complex legal theory, terminology, and issues in easy-to-understand language for digestion by Oyster Team Members and Customer Companies
- Experience in one or more of the following areas would be beneficial:
- Excellent analytical, communication, and research skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-output, team-oriented, practical environment
- A positive attitude and a willingness to assist others no matter how small the task
- Be competent.

**Bonus Attributes**:
- Remote work experience
- Prior experience in a legal department
- Experience with growing and supporting a team
- Proficient in Google Suite of products (Gmail, Google Doc, Google Sheets)
- Experience with a Contract Lifecycle Management system preferred (e.g., Ironclad, SAP CLM, Apttus, Conga, or the like)
- Electronic signature software experience preferred (e.g., HelloSign, DocuSign)
- Working in Notion, Asana and Zendesk
