The Engineering Leader will lead the Due Diligence (Wind, Solar, Storage) renewable advisory business in Latin America in coordination with other regional leads in Renewables Advisory sales, digital, marketing leads, matrixed S&A functions in Strategy, Operations and Corporate functions with Finance, HR etc., ensuring cross collaboration with other relevant Renewable Advisory experts across regions.
The position is high profile and requires a mature and experienced candidate with effective communication, project management, business, and technical skills.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter, with a can-do spirit and willingness to work diligently in a team environment to achieve shared success.
This role can be hybrid from one of the UL Solutions Renewable Advisory offices in Latin America (São Paulo, Brazil; Medellín, Bogota, and CDMX, Mexico).
Develop, execute and implement Operational strategy to drive organic/inorganic growth and profitability while ensuring customer satisfaction through a deep understanding of the customer and market intelligence in the Renewables sector.
Manage high profile Independent Engineering and Technical Advisory projects for project financing, tax equity, sales and acquisitions of Solar PV and portfolios, including overseeing battery technology reviews, civil and electrical design reviews, reviews of commercial and technical contracts, project schedule, project financial model, CAPEX and OPEX costs, environmental and permitting review, site visits and construction monitoring.
Compile and complete IE and TA reports and summarize key results and conclusions. Ensure a quality of work that meets and exceeds client expectations. Integrate all review sections from UL's multi-disciplinary team and ensure that UL's technical and commercial analysis is consistent throughout sections.
Prepare proposals detailing scope of work, team, budget and schedule for completion.
Manage and schedule internal resources. Ensure project deliverables stay on time, on target, and on budget.
Mentor and train junior staff and assume responsibility for the internal growth of the team.
Ensure high quality standards on the deliverables and the highest in class service of UL Solutions clients focused on Lender's Technical Advisory and Due Diligence for merge and acquisition transactions across Latin America, ensuring team coherence and implementing a customer focus mindset across the different teams.
Accountable for ensuring financial targets (revenue, profit, enterprise value, etc.) for Due Diligence are met.
Full budget and P&L responsibility. Including developing annual revenue and business plans and identifying specific growth areas in Latin America for Due Diligence services.
Drive and lead initiatives to identify new and/or additional business opportunities in close coordination with sales. Anticipate customer needs by creating strong partnerships with Sales and Business Development.
Provide proactive solutions for new business opportunities to secure revenue, profit margin, market share and customer satisfaction.
Work with lenders and developers as the main client interface for UL. Attend client meetings with lenders and developers as needed. Engage clients and internal staff to develop creative solutions to meet client needs; provide exceptional customer service with a focus of growing client relationships.
Prepare communication plan and related project status reports. Facilitate and lead regular status meetings with internal project team, sponsors, and stakeholders.
Work with multi-disciplinary team to identify project risks, barriers, and issues and propose possible solutions and mitigation strategies.
Ensure the use of best practices and apply lessons learned from previous projects.
Review of project contracts and financial models.
Represent UL Solutions at conferences and business development meetings.
Guide the business strategy and development for the due diligence team.
University degree (equivalent to a bachelor's degree) in Engineering or related field plus generally ten years directly related experience in Renewables specially in Solar, including at least five years of relevant management/leadership experience.
Master in Renewable energies or similar.
Prior experience leading teams, ideally globally.
Ability to promote services to technical and commercial decision makers, owners, operators, lenders as well as to investors.
Strong customer focus and strong interpersonal skills to establish trustful relationships, ability to sell and to close orders.
Prior experience working in a matrix organization.
Excellent communication skills in English, plus Portuguese and/or Spanish.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PPT).
Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
Detail oriented.
Strong team spirit and proactive attitude.
Ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge in solar would be appreciated.
Significant business travel and work outside of the office is required.
Ability to listen, learn and coach.
Ability to work in and understand diverse cultural environments.
