Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Specialist to join our team in Wanica. As an Environmental Specialist, you will play an important role in developing and implementing our environmental sustainability strategy, including biodiversity and deforestation, ensuring our operations are environmentally responsible and minimizing anynegative impacts throughout our entire value chain. Your expertise will support our efforts in achieving eco-friendly farming techniques, promoting soil conservation, waste reduction, and sustainable resource management.
**Responsibilities**:
- Develop and implement environmental management plans for all aspects of Wi! Suriname's operations, from cultivation to processing and distribution.
- Develop and implement strategies to reduce our environmental footprint, such as waste reduction, water conservation, pollution control, and energy efficiency.
- Develop and maintain a robust environmental management system (EMS) compliant with international standards (e.g., ISO 14001).
- Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and audits to identify potential risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Monitor environmental indicators such as water quality, soil health, and greenhouse gase missions and report regularly on progress toward environmental goals.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental regulations and permits.
- Monitor environmental metrics, prepare detailed reports, and present actionable insights for continuous improvement.
- Develop and deliver environmental training programs for women farmers and farming community members.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is highly preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in environmental management, preferably within the agriculturalor food processing sector.
- Experience in conducting EIAs and environmental audits.
- Strong understanding of tropical ecosystems, soil conservation, resource management, and environmental impact assessments.
- Strong commitment to environmental sustainability.
- Excellent communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Dutch is a plus. Sranan Tongo is a valuable asset.
