Jhpiego is hiring for the position of Technical Advisor-Midwifery based at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh in India.
The position will report to the State Program Manager and will work closely with the Midwifery Training Institutes, attached clinical sites, and other healthcare providers as part of an inter-professional collaborative team.
The overall aim is to prepare midwifery educators and NPM at par with WHO educator and ICM standards competencies that will support the implementation of the government initiative to establish midwifery services in India.
Responsibilities
Facilitate MNCH specific to Midwifery led care training and conduct mentoring supervision visits to service delivery facilities and training sites, when state colleagues need clinical support or where there is a need to mentor state staff.
Support NPME and NPM training sites needing additional support for performing natural births as expected.
Monitor and support Midwifery Educators to use a variety of student-centred teaching/learning approaches, supporting the acquisition of knowledge, necessary skills, and behaviours to attain essential ICM Nurse Practitioners in Midwifery Competency and WHO Midwifery educator competencies.
As guided by supervisor, work with the Jhpiego Technical Director and program team to contribute actively in activities including leading and coordinating the process of development of Midwifery Led care technical updates, preparing materials like IECs, facilitating training and supportive supervision activities to ensure necessary technical inputs and take initiatives to achieve desired results.
Ensure quality training and clinical services as per Jhpiego standards in all activities.
Periodically assess and record students' performance and provide timely and constructive feedback.
Build capacity of state colleagues in training, supportive supervision, and program implementation through guidance, coaching, and mentoring, ensuring implementation of Jhpiego standards and national policy.
Guide midwifery educators through research and use of evidence-based guidelines in line with available national maternal health and newborn care guidelines.
Document and compile data generated in the SMTIs and NMTIs as well as MLCUs sites.
Provide mentoring support to the midwifery educator trainees in acquiring the necessary skills in the midwifery model of care, competencies for modern teaching learning methods, conducting skilled laboratory practice sessions and clinical instruction.
Coordinate and collaborate with stakeholders, government officials, Jhpiego staff, and consultants for effective implementation, as well as liaise with other partners working in reproductive healthcare in program states and more generally in India.
Provide technical inputs and support into activities, while ensuring overall technical quality of Jhpiego processes and products.
Demonstrate evidence-based clinical practices and values needed to change traditional MNCH practices, as required.
Serve as role models for best practices in midwifery and providing women-centered respectful compassionate care.
Work closely with the team on setting program priorities and responding to requests for technical support from State Health officials and/or local counterparts.
Support and demonstrate quality clinical supervision of midwifery educator trainees (NPMEs and NPMs) in the clinical practice site/s as per ICM standards.
Represent Jhpiego at meetings such as state-level meetings involving government and international/National development partners.
Assist with preparation of documents, reports, and presentations for internal and external use, as needed.
Perform or assume other duties as assigned by the Program Director, Technical Director, and team to ensure smooth functioning to achieve organizational goals and keep them informed of successes, challenges, and lessons learned.
Required Qualifications
B.Sc.
Nursing with M.Sc.
Nursing (OBGy/ Paediatrics/ Community Health) and NPME qualification from an Affiliated NMTI & registered as RN, RM with registration of Additional qualification as Nurse practitioner in midwifery in India is desirable.
Desirable experience of 5-10 years including 2 years of experience managing MLCU in teaching/standalone settings as an academic and/or clinical midwifery.
Prior experience in introducing the midwifery model of care and change management especially in low- & middle-income countries is desirable.
Prior experience in teaching and training would be an added advantage.
Experience in health programs, particularly Reproductive Health focusing on essential midwifery Care, IMNCI will be an added advantage.
Familiarity with the Indian health system, key stakeholders, and relevant government policies/strategies particularly National Health Mission and Nursing Midwifery Education System.
