**GENERAL DESCRIPTION**
The Area Compliance Director for Latin America is a senior leader of the AbbVie Office of Ethics & Compliance ("OEC") and a member of the LATAM cross-functional management team. Is responsible for providing leadership and direct oversight for AbbVie's compliance program at the Area and affiliate levels. The position can be based in any country of Latin America or in North Chicago, Illinois, USA.
**CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Is a member of the International OEC leadership team, helping set compliance policy applied internationally.
- Provide guidance and support in Latin America on national, regional, and international industry codes, government regulations including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other initiatives sponsored by the Office of Ethics & Compliance.
- Has direct supervisory responsibility for the LATAM OEC team, including Affiliate Directors, Managers and Analysts. A key component of the role is to coach, develop, supervise, and coordinate the activities of team members, ensuring they have appropriate support in terms of technical knowledge, competencies, and resources to enable the execution of AbbVie's Affiliate Compliance program. Build a high performing compliance organization to support AbbVie's business in Latin America, including hiring talented professionals for open positions, and manage that organization to ensure it is performing at the highest level.
- Assess the existing compliance program at the Latin America Area level and at the individual affiliate level and identify and implement means by which to enhance it, ensuring that all elements of an effective compliance program are being met in the most efficient and effective manner. Direct and conduct periodic reviews and updates related to policies and procedures, ensuring clarity, applicability, and compliance with OEC policy and external requirements.
- Provide leadership, guidance and support to all levels and key functions at Area and Affiliates, on complex ethics and compliance issues, including policy interpretation and requirements, compliance risk assessment, conflicts of interest, trend analyses and best practice recommendations.
- Work cross-functionally to partner with the Business (e.g. GM, Commercial, Finance, Medical, Legal, HR, Regulatory, Public Affairs) to proactively help the business meet its goals and objectives in a compliant manner. The position should identify Legal, Medical, Regulatory Affairs, HR or other relevant issues, refer matters to respective departments, analyze alternatives and propose solutions to the business. Will work closely with Legal on matters having both Compliance and Legal implications. Exhibits good judgment in matters that may need to be referred to other functions or to OEC Leadership.
- Collaborate with Latin America Vice President and affiliate General Managers to help execute compliance awareness and tone-at-the-top initiatives, establishing an adequate compliance culture. Through working with their OEC team, Regional Vice President and Affiliate General Managers and other members of senior leadership, he/she will help establish a culture of compliance at the Area and Affiliate, with the right "tone from the top" (e.g., the VP and GM) and "tone at the middle" (e.g., Directors and Managers) regarding the importance of operating in a compliant manner with high ethical standards.
- Working with their team and business partners to develop, implement, coordinate, and deliver awareness, education, policies and procedures trainings, and other necessary training programs that focus on the elements of the Affiliate's Compliance Program, and are also tailored to positions and associated responsibilities.
- Guide the team to structure, implement and supervise the Affiliate monitoring plan to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and to identify policy and procedure improvements that can create business process efficiencies. Follow up on monitoring results, analyze trends, analyze root cause, contribute to remediation plans, and help update country/region compliance program accordingly.
- Works with his/her team to ensure all Affiliates have an effective and fully operational leadership governance meeting, the Affiliate Compliance Insights Forum (ACIF). When applicable, identify external environment changes and trends, communicate changes to ACIF and Business Leaders and work with their team to implement necessary changes to the Affiliate Compliance Program(s)
- Partner with the team, Affiliate on compliance audits and investigations, while maintaining full objectivity and independence from either. Support and oversee investigations, as applicable.
- Participate and Lead key International OEC projects/goals.
- Manage Area assigned budget.
**EDUCATION**
- Bachelor's degree required. Equivalent work experience from Finance, Audit, Commercial, Legal or Regulatory strongly preferred.
**EXPERIENCE**
- Desired 5+ years of experience
