PURPOSE
The Managing Director will be accountable for delivering the terminal project in Brazil, working closely with the project team. This role involves strategic planning, risk management, stakeholder management, and ensuring operational readiness and smooth transition to a fully functional terminal.
MD will play a key role in overseeing and coordinating all project related activities in close connection with corporate project team, involving project management, regulatory compliance, and establishing operational standards.
In alignment with corporate project team, MD will ensure the terminal is developed on time, within budget, and in alignment with company goals and regulatory requirements. And he/she will also ensure the transferring the terminal from project to a running, fully operational state terminal, in full alignment of APMT operational standards.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
Project Management
Ensure successful delivery of the terminal project including overseeing the entire terminal project lifecycle from planning and design through construction, operational launch, and full transition to running operations.
Oversee project milestones, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and objectives.
Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
Ensure the full operating model of the project is aligned with company strategy and focused on lean concepts, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Provide leadership and guidance to the project team to achieve project goals.
Strategic Planning and Risk Management
Develop and execute strategic plans for the terminal's development, operational readiness, and transition to a fully functional terminal.
Keep the project aligned with the company's overall strategic goals and objectives.
Continuously conduct market analysis to ensure the future terminal will meet the needs of the industry and market.
Identify potential risks related to the project and develop comprehensive risk management strategies.
Ensure business continuity plans are in place.
Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, and industry partners.
Represent the company in negotiations with regulatory authorities in local and country levels, and other external parties.
Ensure transparent and effective communication with all stakeholders throughout the project.
Operational Readiness and Transition:
Develop operational plans and procedures to ensure the terminal is ready for commercial operations and transition smoothly to a fully functional state.
Establish operational KPIs and performance metrics.
Manage the handover process from the project phase to full operational status, ensuring a seamless transition.
Project execution
Oversee and coordinate with the Project Director on the execution of the project, including financial management, licenses, regulatory compliance, acquisition of equipment, and civil works.
Ensure all project activities are conducted in alignment with company policies, goals, and regulatory requirements.
Provide strategic input and support to the Project Director to facilitate project success.
Operational Model Design:
Ensure the design of an efficient and effective operational model for the terminal, incorporating LEAN methods and principles of continuous improvement.
Develop operational plans and procedures to ensure the terminal operates at peak efficiency with tools for management of cycles.
Implement automated systems and processes to optimize workflow, reduce waste, and improve productivity.
Establish a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation and employee involvement in process enhancements.
As the incumbent has to constantly manage divergent needs between various functions & is responsible for the delivery of the project business plans, the position will exercise a multi-dimensional role encompassing all areas of the business.
REPORTING AND SCOPE
This position reports directly to the Regional Managing Director Americas.
The project director in Suape has a dotted line to this position.
This position scope is domestic.
CRITICAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
College degree
Desirable post graduate studies in management or related business studies.
Advanced Spanish and English skills.
10 years in senior leadership roles and 5 year experience as P&L responsible.
Strategic mindset, ability to drive strategic initiatives.
Knowledge of setting of budgets, reporting and accounting.
Knowledge of ERPs and its functionality
