Position description
The fully financed position is part of a collaboration project between the University of Applied Sciences HES-SO Valais-Wallis as well as the pharma and biotechnology company Lonza AG with academic supervision from ETH Zürich (Prof. Sven Panke; degree awarding University).We are currently looking for a highly motivated PhD student (m/w/x) that is interested in the development of new DNA based tools for the application of high throughput screening of microbial cells for industrial application. The PhD position is part of the group of Prof. Nils Hanik, at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland Valais, Institute of Life Science in Sion. The project is coordinated by Lonza AG (Armin Baumschlager).
Your profile
MSc degree in biotechnology, molecular biology or equivalent
Experience in plasmid construction, working with recombinant expression in microbial cells and strain characterization with fluorescence flow cytometry (FFC), together with knowledge of microencapsulation techniques will be an added advantage
Ready to take project leadership
Strong communication skills in English
Independent working style
Motivated to work in an interdisciplinary team between academia and industry. The successful candidate enjoys collaborating with scientists and engineers outside of their discipline
