Postdoc Opportunity: Single Molecule Tracking To Study Bacterial Membrane Biogenesis

Cell Biology of Bacterial Membrane Biogenesis
A full-time post-doctoral position is available immediately to study the spatiotemporal control of membrane synthesis in bacteria.
We will apply advanced microscopy techniques (single-molecule tracking, superresolution, FRAP, FRET) to determine the subcellular location and dynamics of phospholipid synthesizing enzymes, with the goal of answering the following questions:
Is membrane synthesis dispersive or localized?
Is membrane synthesis coupled to cell division or other cell cycle events?
How do cells control the amount of membrane to be synthesized?
In addition to these fundamental questions, the successful candidate will also participate in the search for inhibitors of phospholipid synthesis, a promising but underexplored target for new antibiotics.
We are seeking highly motivated candidates, capable of working independently and interested in bridging basic science with antibiotic discovery.
Previous experience with fluorescence microscopy is a plus, but not mandatory.
The position entails salary for a 2-year stay in the Gueiros-Filho Lab (University of São Paulo) and a 1-year stay in the Garner lab (Harvard University).
The stay in the Garner Lab will be used for training in single-molecule microscopy data acquisition and analysis, so that this expertise can subsequently be implemented in the Gueiros-Filho lab.
