In this role, you will leverage your expertise in plant pathology to support our mission of enhancing the genetic gain in Row Crop Breeding programs, specifically for soybeans and corn. This position is crucial in the characterization of germplasm and pipeline development for disease resistance in soybean and corn, contributing to the success of breeding programs in both Brazil and Paraguay.Click here to watch the video prepared by Vinicius Stock, Plant Pathology Specialist, about this position.MAIN PURPOSE:Play a major role on germplasm and pipeline characterization for soy and corn diseases for Brazil and Paraguay;Generate data for key diseases using validated protocols for HTP;Reinforce our Plant Health team with a strong background in plant pathology to cover all the phases for trials conduction in the field for diseases using modern techniques;Plant Health Scientist as a key member and influencer of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for corn & soy diseases placement in the Subtropical Region from Brazil and Paraguay;A recognized expert in Plant Pathology with deep knowledge on disease to drive the decision-making process and data-driven mindset for all Subtropical Brazilian Pipelines.KEY WORKING RELATIONS:Collaboration and partnerships with different teams to develop and deploy new tools and technologies for pipeline effectiveness and efficiency across world regions and crops, as well as other R&D functions and Crop Science organizations as needed, to ensure alignment on project design, targets, and resource needs and timelines;Close collaboration with other LATAM Corn and Soy Breeding programs and Plant Health in row crops and globally;Besides Breeding, the individual will interact with the following groups: Trait & Pipeline Delivery, Agronomic Services, Product Teams, Supply and Production Research, Marketing and Product Management, Commercial and Sales, Plant Biotechnology, Regulatory Sciences, Field Solutions, and Digital Field Solutions.YOUR MISSION WILL BE TO:Disease resistance characterization of corn and soy commercial portfolios and pipelines;Development of methods for appropriate phenotyping in field for product characterization and advancement;Collect disease data, ensuring it is performed at the proper time and in agreement with quality standards;Responsible for plant disease data load, QA/QC, data analysis and loaded to breeding advancement/selection tools and to attend regional/global forums initiatives;Responsible to align and execute the screening plan in collaboration with crop science teams, mainly Breeding partners such as Prod Design and Prod Development;Coordinate yield trials for diseases assays and be responsible for recruiting, training, and development of seasonal workers and contractors;Register all the innovative ideas and projects at Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN), attending standard operating procedures (SOP/WI) and safety procedures (JSA);Build and maintain a positive work environment, constant learning behavior and work in collaboration with partners and stakeholders and develop relationships with growers/customers to enhance process improvements and standardization and implement innovative technologies.ARE YOU READY FOR THE POSITION?Must have:PhD degree in Plant Pathology;Very strong background in disease and pathogen biology and disease epidemiology;Experience in disease assessment for corn and soybean diseases;Comprehensive knowledge on databases and software; data analysis and visualization; oral presentation skills. E.g.: Python, R, Power Bi, Power Point, etc;Ability to lead and influence key stakeholders through challenges and opportunities;Strong collaboration and teamwork, result orientation and creative thinking. Demonstrate ability to manage multiple projects/priorities simultaneously;Ability to communicate effectively in English and Portuguese (written and spoken).
