Program Description (Background): International Medical Corps is a global humanitarian nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through healthcare training and relief and development programs. Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in areas worldwide.
This position will support International Medical Corps' emergency response delivering outpatient clinical care to disaster-affected populations.

JOB SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of the MHPSS Specialist is to work within the framework of the IASC guidelines, Sphere standards as well as International Medical Corps MHPSS Quality Standards to provide mental health and psychosocial support in emergency settings.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General:
Work within the framework of the IASC guidelines for mental health and psychosocial support in emergency settings and Sphere standards as well as IMC MHPSS Quality Standards.
Liaise effectively with IMC mental health advisor to discuss and review program materials and tools.
Represent IMC as requested in various cluster and working group meetings.
Work collaboratively with other agencies and relevant government bodies.
Assessment and Stakeholder Engagement:
Conduct a situational analysis of targeted health facility and staff.
Produce and share assessment report to guide program implementation.
Training and Capacity Building:
Develop targeted training materials and tools based on global guidelines.
Provide training in identification, management, and referral for selected priority neurological and substance use disorders.
Support training of paraprofessional staff in mental health and psychosocial support.
Provide ongoing supervision and mentoring.
Institutional Level Integration:
Support the integration of mental health at the health facility level.
Assist the PHC staff in creating a clinical mental health service.
Provide support for selection, distribution, use, and tracking of psychotropic medication.
Collaborate with service providers for integrated mental health services.
Provision and Oversight of Mental Health Services:
Provide oversight and technical support for mental health services and activities.
Consult on complex cases and respond to psychiatric emergencies.
Keep a comprehensive audit of clinical work conducted.
Community Level Mental Health Promotion:
Organize public awareness campaigns around mental health issues.
Support paraprofessional workers in developing psychosocial activities.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
Assume responsibility for monitoring and reporting on the work.
Coordinate project monitoring and evaluation activities.
Contribute to donor reporting and produce training reports.
General:
Assist with the setup, maintenance, and demobilization of clinical spaces and base camp.
Policy Adherence:
Actively promote PSEA standards within International Medical Corps.
Adhere to the Code of Conduct and maintain humanitarian principles.
The fluid nature of emergency response requires personnel to adapt to a rapidly changing landscape; duties may be reconfigured to meet operational requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Medical degree or Psychiatric Nursing degree with complete residency and current license/registration.
Typically, 5+ years' experience working on MHPSS programs.
Experience training and capacity building of health professionals.
Strong organizational and supervisory skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within different cultural environments.
Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation.
Additional Technical or Language Requirements: Candidates can expect to be living and working in austere conditions. Lifting moderately heavy objects and hiking in remote locations may be necessary.
