About the RoleThe transportation industry has no shortage of complex problems requiring creative, data-intensive solutions in order to effectively and efficiently automate operations at scale. In this role, you will be expected to work autonomously and contribute to several high impact projects including optimizing all application touchpoints with the database systems.Responsibilities: Performance Enhance and optimize existing databases for peak performanceFind bottlenecks in high volume OLTP environments and deliver optimal solutionsUnderstand database execution plans and how to use the information to optimize codeMonitor and analyse database performance and ensure effective and efficient utilization of database systems/processesSkills for developing, deploying, & debugging cloud applicationsMaintain a high bar for quality and performance of your product with vigorous attention to detail and automated testingExperience with continuous integration, delivery, desired state processes tools and constraintsSolve complex technical issues involving multiple technology stacksSet and maintain database standardsDesign and implement highly available database architectures using proven frameworks and toolsProvide documentation and training to other Engineering stakeholdersWrite clean, maintainable, and well-tested codeRequirements: Be a technical leader and show ownership of database design5+ years of practical experience building and supporting Microsoft SQL databasesExtensive experience with query tuning and troubleshooting including indexing, ensuring proper join techniques, etc.Excellent SQL programming: writing, maintaining, and testing codes using "outside the box" approachAbility to understand complicated problems and craft into simple solutions that can be maintained by the rest of the teamAbility to participate in and contribute to code management in GitHub includingactively collaborating in peer-reviews, feature branches, and resolving conflicts and commitsProvide technical leadership on database systems and solutions. Provide individual mentoring and training on databases and tools. Recommend, test, and evaluate new technologies, software tools, and required skill sets; recommend and implement improvements.Ability to train and mentor applications developers on best database practicesAdaptable to change and able to work independently and as part of a teamStrong sense of responsibility with a bias towards actionComfortable self-directing and prioritizing your own workExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExperience leading technical projects
