JOB DESCRIPTIONJob DescriptionExperienced engineers for design of subsea structures and ancillaries - Rio de Janeiro, RJDescriptionAs a Subsea Structural Engineer, you will be working with the design and procurement of ancillary components for NOV's flexible pipe systems.
Ancillary components are additional structures that are mounted on the flexible pipes to add certain functionalities, for instance, bend stiffeners for protection against over-bending in critical pipe regions or buoyancy modules for adding upthrust to specific pipe sections.The preferred candidate has a background in mechanical or subsea engineering and possesses strong analytical skills.
In this role, you will be working in close collaboration with NOV's sub-suppliers to ensure correct design and timely delivery of the ancillary components.
You will be responsible for interpreting client requirements, writing technical specifications, and reviewing design documentation from the suppliers.
Ancillary components are complex structures including steel, polymer, and composite materials, so strong material knowledge is essential.
Preferably, you will also have experience with structural design and welding from a previous job.The daily work will be carried out in our Engineering Department/team in NOV's office in Rio.
You will report to the local team leader who will coordinate your daily tasks.
In addition to this, you will have strong collaboration with the ancillary components team in NOV's headquarters in Denmark, being part of a global engineering setup.
You will interact not just with colleagues across the organization - from Flexibles' headquarters in Denmark to our factory in the Port of Açu, São João da Barra, Brazil, but also with Brazilian customers (mainly Petrobras) where you discuss and challenge their assumptions - again, to create the best solution for all.
Our Engineering Department works on individual projects from tender/sales to execution and closure, plus technical services after sales, providing specific engineering solutions for our customers.Your ability to perform high-level engineering work while coordinating a complex sub-supplier interface with internal and external clients will be critical to your success in this role.
You will be able to achieve large individual responsibility while also working in a team.
You will be able to follow the product from design and fabrication at suppliers to final mounting at our production facilities.
You should be keen to take on new challenges, develop your technical and interpersonal skills, as well as expand your knowledge and experience and share them.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Write technical specifications for suppliers based on input from clients and other engineering teams.Review design documentation from suppliers.Perform design work on internally designed components.Prepare and check design documentation.Attend ancillary component fit-up tests at NOV's production facilities.Handle client comments and ensure that design documentation is updated accordingly.Attend project meetings and provide necessary information to other project members.Keep track of component delivery in coordination with the supply chain.Contribute to the continuous development of the team's design guidelines.Ensure a timely execution of assigned projects.Travel as and when required in order to support the business.Qualifications:B.Sc in mechanical engineering or similar.Desirable M.Sc in mechanical engineering or similar.Experience with steel, bolting, and welding.
Preferably also polymers and composites.A strong analytical mindset combined with project management skills.Fluent in both written and spoken English on a professional level.Technically powerful team playerFurthermore, we expect you to be a strong team player with a clear focus on deliverables and an understanding of how to apply technical information in connection with other engineering disciplines.
You are a hard worker with a strong commitment to tasks and team, and when necessary, you can adapt and find alternative solutions.
You also need to be analytical and structured, as you will be working with large amounts of data.
