SCOPE OF WORK (SOW)
1. BACKGROUND TO THE ASSIGNMENT:
IMC supports integrated programs in 25 countries worldwide, ranging from primary and secondary health care to emergency preparedness and response, to specialized services such as dialysis and trauma care. At the core of these programs is capacity building to improve quality of services for beneficiaries, and build resilience among health care workers, non-health professionals, and the community.
As part of these efforts and in line with IMC's Operational Framework to enhance the impact of our programs, IMC is engaging volunteer instructors from multiple backgrounds to travel to IMC country missions, temporary programs, and emergency responses to provide clinical or non-clinical training as needed depending on the context.
Locations are identified by the ERU programs and technical teams based on needs, security level/access to health facilities, and non-restrictive visa policies. Volunteer instructors are matched with countries based on their respective aptitudes and country needs.
2. PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The Volunteer Instructor will provide training in their own area of expertise via didactic training, hands-on training, supportive supervision or any combination of the same, as discussed and agreed to by the instructor and the team, based on need and context. Training will be conducted at IMC-supported health facilities (clinics and/or hospitals), partner or MoH facilities, or other locations as determined by the context. The expected outcome of this assignment is to improve the skills and knowledge of participants resulting in improved knowledge and skills.
3. SCOPE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
Preparation

Meet with Course Director and/or ERU team to prepare for training and support in the design, editing, and contextualization of the training material as needed.
Review existing reports and resources on IMC's experience with course and its presence, if any, in country.

Implementation

Assist with the setup, maintenance, and demobilization of the training space as required.
Deliver in-person lectures for participants, facilitate small group sessions, manage hands-on skills stations and ensure questions from participants are answered.
Evaluate participant comprehension and progress and determine competency using pre-defined metrics.
Assist in certification remediation opportunities for students scoring below 75% on post-course exam.
Participate in monitoring & evaluation activities of all course instructors.
Complete daily instructor notes and course summary for course report.
Enter and analyze monitoring and evaluation data daily.
Assist in the demobilization of the training space, packing, and inventory of all training supplies and equipment.
Support course director in completion of the course report before departing field.

IF this training involves live patient encounters:

Participate in clinical work at the designated health facilities, and provide on-the-job training.
Direct support - being physically present with the patient and provider, providing real-time feedback on the interaction (e.g., history, physical exam, differential diagnosis, investigations, treatment, procedures, follow up, etc.).
Indirect support – being available to consult on various patients as requested by providers.
Participate in clinical rounds, patient care meetings, informal and formal discussions of various cases, morbidities and mortalities, and other work as related to the instructor's specialty area.
Inform country team verbally and in writing regarding any gaps in staffing, medication, consumables, equipment, IPC, spaces and infrastructure, including electricity, water, sanitation, etc.
Report any risks to patient safety and provide additional recommendations to improve patient care, including areas where additional training may be required.

Requirements
Essential

Formal training in the subject matter related to the training.
Certification in the specific training being delivered as appropriate to context.

Desirable

Advanced degree in the subject matter being instructed.

Experience

Experience in delivering relevant training.
Minimum 2 years' experience in a non-profit organization or for-profit sector, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Competency

Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations.
Excellent decision-making skills.
Team player and strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Proficient in computer applications, especially with MS Word and MS Excel, MS PowerPoint.

Language(s)

English – written and spoken.
Local language depending on the location of training.
