About the Company: Backed by Uber and NVIDIA, Serve Robotics develops advanced, AI-powered, low-emissions sidewalk delivery robots that endeavor to make delivery sustainable and economical. Spun off from Uber in 2021 as an independent company, Serve has completed tens of thousands of deliveries for enterprise partners such as Uber Eats and 7-Eleven. The company has scalable multi-year contracts, including a signed agreement to deploy up to 2,000 delivery robots on the Uber Eats platform across multiple U.S. markets.Over 40% of restaurant deliveries in the US are within 30 minutes walking distance, yet 90% of the time, we are moving two-pound burritos with two-ton cars!We are reimagining how things move in cities. Our personable sidewalk delivery robot, Serve, is a small, low-speed self-driving vehicle that's designed to take deliveries away from congested streets to save energy and reduce emissions, while making deliveries faster and cheaper.Having completed thousands of commercial deliveries for Postmates (now Uber) in Los Angeles and San Francisco, we recently spun out with backing from top tier investors to grow faster and target the entire sidewalk delivery market. Our commercial agreement with Uber provides us unlimited access to delivery jobs— and thus revenue.Responsibilities:Designing and implementing core pieces of our next generation mapping and localization engineBuilding a mapping system that scales to city-size environmentsCollaborate to improve Mapping annotation tooling and consumption of data by neural network based approaches for safe traversable area navigationBuild estimators and RTK capable GPS data in robot to remove the uncertainty in it's global localizationWorking closely with other autonomy team members to maximize the utility provided by mapping and localizationShipping production quality code, participating in code reviews, teaching / mentoring more junior engineersWhat you bring:A deep understanding of SLAM systemsStrong C++ programming skillsThe ability to design and build a simple system that works and having it gradually evolve into a complex system that still worksA desire to answer the question "How much value is my code providing?" by designing the appropriate metrics and running experimentsGood verbal and written communication skills As a plus:Experience building cloud applicationsExperience with very large geospatial datasetsExperience with CUDA programmingExperience with real sensors, such as lidar, camera, RGB-D, etc.Perks:Opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies and contribute to innovative projects.
